A well-established, multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm is seeking a Traffic Project Engineer to support transportation projects throughout Pennsylvania. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and technically challenging environment.

The ideal candidate is a motivated team player who thrives in collaborative settings and can independently lead traffic engineering tasks involving complex features, either through direct execution or by supervising technical staff. Familiarity with PennDOT, PA Turnpike, and MUTCD design requirements is required. Experience with municipal and county agencies within Pennsylvania is a plus.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and quality review of:

    • Traffic studies and technical reports

    • Design plans and calculations

    • Specifications and construction cost estimates

  • Perform traffic modeling and operational analysis using tools such as Highway Capacity Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, or similar platforms

  • Develop traffic signal designs, signing and pavement marking plans

  • Prepare Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) / Traffic Control plans

  • Serve as Task Manager on small to mid-sized projects

  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • 12+ years of progressive traffic engineering experience

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required (Pennsylvania or reciprocity eligible)

  • PTOE certification preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • MicroStation proficiency required; OpenRoads Designer experience preferred

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Apply advanced knowledge of traffic engineering principles and transportation design practices

  • Analyze complex technical challenges and develop practical, cost-effective solutions

  • Stay informed of evolving regulations, tools, and industry best practices

  • Recommend innovative approaches, improved processes, and technical enhancements

  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, policies, and performance measures

  • Apply risk management principles in project delivery

Project & Team Leadership

  • Lead project teams consisting of engineers and technical staff

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate multi-disciplinary project tasks

  • Manage deliverables for projects of moderate to high complexity

  • Provide mentorship and foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and collaboration

Communication & Representation

  • Represent the firm in meetings with clients, agencies, contractors, and stakeholders

  • Prepare and present technical findings clearly and persuasively

  • Collaborate across internal teams and external partners

  • Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and strategic communication skills
