Principal in Charge – Healthcare - Seattle, WA (Hybrid Schedule)
About the Role
A nationally recognized, employee-owned architecture and design firm is seeking a Principal in Charge to lead major healthcare projects and oversee client relationships, business development, and project execution across all phases of design and construction.
This leadership role is responsible for managing large-scale healthcare projects, driving revenue growth, mentoring teams, and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, and industry partners. The position is based in Seattle with a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office / 2 remote).
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Client Leadership
- Lead client pursuits, presentations, and contract negotiations
- Develop and maintain long-term client and industry relationships
- Identify and secure new project opportunities and repeat business
- Manage project revenue targets and maintain a healthy project backlog
- Represent the firm through conferences, presentations, and industry engagement
- Lead Go/No-Go pursuit decisions and oversee proposal development
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor project teams across multiple projects
- Promote accountability, technical excellence, and adherence to firm standards
- Coordinate work across consultants, leadership teams, and office staff
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and staff development support
- Collaborate with studio and firm leadership on strategic initiatives
Project Oversight
- Oversee all phases of project management and delivery
- Monitor staffing, budgets, profitability, and project schedules
- Review project documentation for quality, coordination, and compliance
- Resolve permitting, agency coordination, and construction-phase issues
- Support design quality and ensure alignment with client expectations
- Review specifications, cost estimates, and value analysis efforts
Qualifications
- Degree in Architecture or related field
- Architectural license preferred
- 12-15+ years of architectural experience, including healthcare projects
- Recent healthcare experience including HCAI/OSHPD environments preferred
- Proven experience leading teams and managing large-scale projects
- Strong business development and client management background
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
