Senior Transportation Planner / Traffic Engineer
An opportunity is available for an experienced transportation professional to support the planning, analysis and delivery of complex traffic and mobility projects. This role involves leading technical studies, supporting project delivery and contributing to proposal development across a range of transportation initiatives.
You will act as a Task Manager or Project Planner on multiple assignments, coordinating technical workstreams and ensuring deliverables are completed to a high standard. The position requires strong analytical capability, experience with transportation modelling tools and the ability to contribute to both technical execution and project development efforts.
Key responsibilities:
• Manage and deliver multiple transportation planning and traffic engineering assignments
• Conduct traffic simulation and capacity analysis using industry-standard software
• Perform safety analysis applying recognised methodologies and best practices
• Support multimodal and transit studies
• Contribute to corridor studies, needs assessments and planning-level evaluations
• Prepare functional design documents and preliminary engineering reports
• Support Intelligent Transportation Systems planning and analysis
• Address community traffic operations and safety concerns
• Conduct peer reviews of traffic impact and operational studies
• Develop traffic signal and signal system plans, specifications and cost estimates
• Assist with proposal preparation, staffing plans and project scoping
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning or related discipline
• 9 to 10 years of relevant experience depending on level of education
• Professional certification such as PE, AICP, PTP, PTOE or equivalent preferred
• Experience managing transportation planning or traffic engineering tasks
• Proficiency with transportation modelling and analysis tools
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
• Willingness to travel as project needs require
Preferred experience:
• Technical background in traffic engineering, multimodal planning and transportation systems analysis
• Experience leading large or complex transportation studies
• Familiarity with traffic signal design and traffic control plan development software
• Strong working knowledge of common business and technical software tools
• Experience working with public-sector transportation stakeholders
