Senior Applications Engineer

An industry-leading manufacturer of electrical power distribution and mission-critical infrastructure solutions is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to support complex customer projects across industrial, utility, energy, and critical power markets.

This position sits at the intersection of engineering, commercial strategy, and technical sales, with responsibility for translating customer requirements into technically sound, competitive, and commercially viable solutions. The role offers exposure to a broad range of low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment and provides significant interaction with sales, engineering, operations, and customers.

The Senior Applications Engineer is responsible for reviewing customer requirements, evaluating technical feasibility, and developing accurate proposals for electrical equipment solutions. Acting as both a technical resource and commercial partner, this individual helps shape customer solutions while balancing performance, risk, manufacturability, and profitability.

The role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of electrical distribution systems, and the ability to work independently on projects ranging from routine applications to highly customized solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Proposal Development & Estimating

  • Review customer specifications and determine feasibility of manufacturing or supplying proposed solutions.
  • Develop detailed and competitive technical proposals.
  • Translate conceptual requirements into practical and commercially viable offerings.
  • Optimize system configurations to provide the best outcome for both customers and the business.
  • Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations and assess associated technical and commercial risks.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and proposal documentation.

Technical 

  • Interpret electrical drawings and specifications, including:
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Three-line diagrams
    • Control schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • Electrical enclosure layouts
    • Site plans
  • Identify potential technical concerns and communicate recommendations early in the proposal process.
  • Support cross-functional projects involving multiple product lines and manufacturing groups.

Customer & Sales Support

  • Serve as a technical resource to internal sales teams.
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing integrated solutions across multiple business units.
  • Support customer meetings, industry events, and technical presentations when required.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to cost reduction initiatives alongside engineering and operations teams.
  • Participate in competitive analysis and market studies.
  • Support development and enhancement of product specifications and standards.
  • Lead complex opportunities requiring collaboration across multiple engineering resources.

Technical Requirements

Candidates should possess strong knowledge of:

  • Low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution equipment.
  • Switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and integrated electrical houses (E-Houses).
  • DC power systems and UPS systems.
  • HVAC and enclosure pressurization systems.
  • Cable schedules, conduit systems, and interconnections.
  • Electrical codes and industry standards including:
    • IEEE
    • ANSI
    • NEC
    • NFPA
    • IBC

Candidates should also be comfortable interpreting:

  • Single-line diagrams
  • Three-line diagrams
  • Control schematics
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Electrical specifications and drawings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Approximately four or more years of experience supporting electrical equipment estimating, applications engineering, proposal development, or related functions.
  • Experience within power distribution equipment, switchgear, control systems, or similar industrial electrical products is highly desirable.

Travel & Work Environment
