Are you an experienced medical planner with a passion for healthcare innovation? This nationally respected architecture and design firm is seeking a Senior Medical Planner to join its growing healthcare team. You'll play a key leadership role in shaping the future of medical environments that support wellness, healing, and operational excellence.

This position is ideal for a highly motivated, licensed professional with deep experience in healthcare design, a strategic mindset, and a collaborative spirit. Candidates with OSHPD/HCAI experience and a strong grasp of healthcare operations are especially encouraged to apply.


What You'll Do

As a Senior Medical Planner, you'll guide healthcare projects from strategic planning through design execution. Your leadership will ensure projects align with client objectives, regulatory standards, and the firm's commitment to design excellence and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all phases of healthcare design with technical expertise and strategic insight

  • Develop master plans, functional programs, and medical planning documents

  • Collaborate with clients to define goals, operational needs, and design priorities

  • Conduct planning studies, user interviews, focus groups, and post-occupancy evaluations

  • Design room and departmental layouts aligned with clinical operations and building systems

  • Partner with design leads on massing, flow, and functional layout

  • Integrate healthcare program requirements throughout design and documentation

  • Oversee planning aspects during schematic design and construction documentation

  • Guide compliance with HCAI (formerly OSHPD) regulations, codes, and healthcare standards

  • Support marketing efforts, proposal development, and client interviews

  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a high-performing team culture

  • Represent the firm with professionalism and thought leadership


What We're Looking For

You are an experienced, detail-driven planner with a big-picture perspective. Your qualifications include:

  • Professional degree in Architecture or a related field

  • Architectural licensure with 10-15+ years of experience in healthcare design

  • Experience with OSHPD-1 and OSHPD-3 or HCAI-regulated projects in California

  • Deep knowledge of hospital operations, LEAN planning, and functional design

  • ACHA accreditation preferred; Certificate of Need familiarity a plus

  • Experience with sea-level rise resilience planning (preferred)

  • Strong communication, mentorship, and client-facing skills


Technical & Software Proficiency

  • Advanced Revit and BIM modeling

  • Rhino, Grasshopper, Enscape, and VRay for conceptual design and visualization

  • Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop for presentations

  • Microsoft Office for documentation and analysis

  • Familiarity with life safety, building codes, and healthcare-specific requirements


Compensation Range: $130K - $180K annually (based on experience, licensure, and location)
