Senior Medical Planner – Healthcare
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid)

The Opportunity: The San Francisco Healthcare Studio is seeking a Senior Medical Planner to join a dynamic and collaborative team. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with 10+ years of experience in medical planning and architectural design, particularly on highly technical healthcare projects. The Senior Medical Planner will lead all phases of the design process, guide operational and functional planning, and mentor team members while contributing to impactful healthcare projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of design with a focus on healthcare operational efficiency, patient experience, and design excellence

  • Provide master planning, medical architecture expertise, and functional design solutions

  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver projects that meet client objectives, budgets, and schedules

  • Partner with clients to define facility goals and objectives through programming and operational analysis

  • Develop healthcare operational volume projections and understand hospital operations

  • Manage production of architectural programs, room layouts, and departmental planning

  • Oversee integration of program requirements during schematic and construction document phases

  • Evaluate existing facilities and develop alternate design solutions for future planning

  • Participate in marketing proposals, client interviews, design charrettes, and presentations

  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering growth and creative excellence

  • Coordinate effectively with partners, consultants, and multi-disciplinary teams

Qualifications

  • Professional degree in architecture or related discipline

  • 10-15+ years of professional architectural experience 

  • LEED GA within 6 months of hire; accreditation in Living Design preferred (LEED AP, WELL AP, BREEAM AP, Passive House, ILFI)

  • ACHA accreditation preferred

  • Experience with OSHPD-1 and OSHPD-3 construction and HCAI knowledge for California projects

  • Strong proficiency in BIM, Revit, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, and 2D/3D production software

  • Knowledge of building codes, life safety requirements, functional programming, and construction contract administration

  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
