Automation Engineer

An opportunity is available for an Automation Engineer to support the design, integration and optimisation of automated manufacturing systems within a regulated production environment. This role focuses on driving IT and operational technology integration, improving equipment connectivity and enhancing overall process performance.

 

You will work cross-functionally to identify hardware, software and network architecture requirements, ensuring seamless integration between manufacturing equipment and enterprise systems. The position involves supporting automation scale-up initiatives, improving data visibility and contributing to long-term digital manufacturing strategies.

 

Key responsibilities:

• Lead integration of IT and operational systems across manufacturing environments
• Support automation architecture design, including equipment selection and system configuration
• Assist with data collection, analysis and visualisation to improve process performance
• Develop User Requirement Specifications for new systems and equipment
• Create strategies for upgrading legacy equipment to enable network connectivity
• Support equipment qualification, validation and commissioning activities
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians
• Monitor performance of newly implemented systems and recommend improvements
• Participate in design reviews, technical discussions and cross-functional project meetings
• Maintain technical documentation including specifications, test plans and user guides

Work environment may include manufacturing areas requiring adherence to safety standards, use of personal protective equipment and extended periods of standing.

 

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline
• Advanced degree preferred
• 4 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering within regulated industries, or 2+ years with an advanced degree
• Experience with automation systems, PLCs and SCADA platforms
• Knowledge of manufacturing control systems and equipment integration
• Experience supporting qualification, validation and change management processes
• Familiarity with risk assessment and root cause analysis methodologies
• Experience with CAD tools and technical documentation systems
• Strong understanding of regulatory and quality standards in manufacturing

 

Skills and competencies:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Experience implementing process improvements and efficiency initiatives
• Project management capability with cross-functional collaboration experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools
• Willingness to travel as required
