Manager, Automation & MES
A permanent opportunity is available for an experienced automation leader to oversee operational technology systems within a regulated manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for leading engineering and technical teams supporting manufacturing controls, system integration and site-wide digital transformation initiatives.
You will define and execute a long-term automation and MES strategy aligned with operational excellence goals. The position requires ownership of system lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, capital planning support and continuous improvement across process control infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include:
• Develop and implement a site-wide OT and automation roadmap
• Evaluate and deploy advanced automation technologies to improve efficiency, quality and safety
• Lead adoption of new and existing systems through training and stakeholder engagement
• Manage departmental budgets, timelines and multi-disciplinary technical teams
• Support capital planning and integration of OT systems into larger investment projects
• Establish KPIs, dashboards and governance frameworks to track programme performance
• Ensure ongoing performance, preventative maintenance and technical support for automation systems
• Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of process control and network-related issues
• Manage validation activities including computer system validation and maintain systems in a compliant state
• Lead continuous improvement projects involving new equipment, technologies and processes
• Review and approve technical documentation including specifications, drawings and validation protocols
• Ensure automation systems meet applicable regulatory and quality standards
• Provide subject matter expertise during internal and external audits
• Drive corrective and preventative actions, commissioning and qualification activities
Leadership responsibilities:
• Direct leadership of engineers, technical specialists and contractors
• Hiring, training, development and performance management of team members
• Resource planning and workload prioritisation
• Collaboration with senior site leadership to ensure compliant and efficient asset management
Requirements:
• Degree in Engineering, Automation, Electrical or related technical discipline
• Significant experience leading automation or OT teams within regulated manufacturing environments
• Strong knowledge of MES, process control systems and manufacturing automation platforms
• Experience managing validation, change control and regulatory compliance requirements
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and large-scale automation initiatives
• Experience managing budgets and capital project integration
• Strong technical documentation and governance experience
