Controls, Automation & Integration Subject Matter Expert

A next-generation high-performance computing campus is building out its operational infrastructure to support advanced artificial intelligence workloads, complex modelling, large-scale analytics and other highly demanding compute environments.

This purpose-built facility integrates high-density computing systems with sophisticated control, automation and energy infrastructure designed to maintain continuous uptime and operational reliability. The environment requires advanced coordination between operational technology systems, facility automation platforms and power infrastructure.

To support ongoing operations, an experienced Controls, Automation and Integration Subject Matter Expert is required to provide hands-on technical leadership across the site’s automation and control systems.

The Controls, Automation and Integration SME serves as the on-site technical authority responsible for the operation, troubleshooting and optimization of facility control and automation systems supporting a mission-critical computing environment.

Working closely with operations, engineering and infrastructure teams, this role ensures that building automation, control platforms and integration systems function reliably while supporting continuous operations.

The position focuses on maintaining stable system performance, supporting system integration between facility infrastructure and power systems, and assisting with commissioning, upgrades and operational improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Automation & Control System Operations

• Operate, monitor and support building automation, control and monitoring platforms across the facility
• Maintain reliable operation of automation systems including BMS, SCADA, DCIM and PLC platforms
• Serve as the escalation point for control system alarms, integration issues and abnormal system behavior

Troubleshooting & System Support

• Diagnose and resolve control logic faults, field device failures and communication network issues
• Investigate integration failures between facility automation systems and other operational platforms
• Restore stable operation during system disruptions or performance degradation

System Integration & Infrastructure Coordination

• Support integration between facility infrastructure controls and power generation or electrical distribution systems
• Validate automated sequences, failover logic, interlocks and signal mapping
• Ensure accurate communication between control systems and operational technology platforms

Commissioning & System Changes

• Participate in commissioning, functional testing and system acceptance activities
• Support implementation of software, firmware and configuration updates under formal change management procedures
• Validate system functionality and performance following upgrades or modifications

Incident Response & Continuous Improvement

• Assist with incident response and root cause investigations
• Document findings and contribute to corrective action plans to prevent recurring issues
• Identify risks related to automation system changes and escalate concerns when necessary

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate documentation including control diagrams, I/O lists, network architecture diagrams and configuration records
• Support adherence to relevant engineering, safety and operational standards
• Assist with maintaining operational technology cybersecurity practices

Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

• Work closely with engineering, operations, commissioning and IT/OT teams to ensure system reliability
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to operators and technical personnel

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• 6–9+ years of experience supporting automation, controls or operational technology systems in mission-critical or industrial environments
• Hands-on experience with building automation systems, SCADA platforms and PLC-based control systems
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus or similar technologies
• Experience supporting controls systems during commissioning, construction and operational phases
• Understanding of applicable engineering, electrical safety and operational standards
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills
• Ability to operate effectively within high-availability environments requiring continuous operations

This role offers the opportunity to support the operation of a technically advanced computing environment where automation, controls and infrastructure integration are critical to maintaining system performance and reliability.
