Application Engineer

The Application Engineer supports the design and validation of technical solutions for switchgear and electrical distribution equipment.

This role works closely with engineering, sales, project management and production teams to ensure customer requirements are clearly understood and translated into accurate, compliant and manufacturable designs.

It is a strong development opportunity for an engineer looking to build deeper experience in switchgear applications, customer specifications and project execution while progressing toward more complex and customized engineering work.

Responsibilities

• Participate in project kickoff and technical review meetings
• Review customer documentation, including one-line diagrams and project-specific requirements
• Identify missing information, conflicts or technical concerns before detailed design begins
• Prepare technical clarification documents and support resolution of open items
• Review component lists, one-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams and cable schedules
• Ensure designs meet applicable customer requirements and industry standards
• Coordinate with electrical and mechanical engineering teams throughout the design process
• Support selection of primary and secondary electrical components
• Act as a technical point of contact for standard design-related questions
• Participate in customer and internal technical discussions
• Support design reviews to ensure technical accuracy and manufacturability
• Share practical engineering knowledge with junior engineers and developing application engineers
• Contribute to improvements in engineering procedures, work instructions and design practices
• Stay current with developments in switchgear technology, manufacturing methods and electrical standards

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, one-line diagrams and three-line diagrams
• Familiarity with mechanical layouts and equipment elevation drawings
• Working knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and major control components
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project priorities
• Good technical problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively across engineering, project management and production teams

Preferred Experience

• 2+ years of electrical or mechanical engineering experience
• Previous experience within switchgear, electrical distribution equipment or a related industry
• CAD experience using SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD or similar software
• Familiarity with applicable electrical codes and standards, including NEC, IEEE and UL requirements
• Understanding of low-voltage switchgear and switchboard design principles
