Medical Planner
Location: Boston, MA or Phoenix, AZ | Full-Time | Architecture & Design Sector
A nationally recognized architecture and design firm is seeking a Medical Planner to join its growing Healthcare practice in either its Boston or Phoenix studio. This is a compelling opportunity for a motivated, design-minded, and technically skilled professional with 5+ years of experience in healthcare design and medical planning.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of healthcare operations, functional planning, and clinical workflows, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and contribute meaningfully throughout all design phases. Candidates with a blend of medical planning expertise and either architectural documentation or interior design experience will thrive in this dynamic, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support master planning, programming, and schematic design for a variety of healthcare projects
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to align client goals with project delivery
- Facilitate user engagement and data gathering to define space requirements and workflows
- Develop room and departmental layouts; assist in system selection during early design
- Generate design options aligned with long-term client planning objectives
- Support schematic design, design development, and construction documentation phases
- Analyze existing facilities and post-occupancy feedback to inform future design strategies
- Ensure medical program requirements are integrated into construction documentation
- Contribute to marketing efforts through proposals and participation in client interviews
- Review project work for accuracy and completeness; uphold firm and project standards
- Mentor junior staff and foster a positive, collaborative studio culture
Qualifications:
- Professional degree in Architecture or a related field (required)
- Architectural or Interior Design licensure strongly preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare design and medical planning
- LEED Green Associate (or ability to earn within 6 months)
- Additional Living Design credentials encouraged (LEED AP, WELL AP, CPHC, etc.)
- Familiarity with LEAN principles, OSHPD (where relevant), and Certificate of Need processes
- Strong knowledge of healthcare codes, clinical planning, and construction standards
- Proficiency in Revit and other BIM tools required
- Experience with field measurements, construction documentation, and administration
