rper Harrison is partnering with a nationally recognized engineering and construction consulting firm to recruit an experienced Automation and Controls Engineer VI to join their expanding Water Infrastructure team. Based in Fairfax, Virginia, this role offers a unique chance to work on high-impact municipal water and wastewater projects across the U.S.

You'll lead the design, implementation, and testing of advanced automation and control systems-playing a pivotal role in delivering smarter, more sustainable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead automation design for municipal water/wastewater systems: P&IDs, loop diagrams, SCADA, PLC/HMI integration.

  • Manage development and review of control narratives, network architectures, and technical specifications.

  • Oversee equipment selection, shop drawing reviews, and vendor coordination.

  • Conduct factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT), start-up, and commissioning.

  • Mentor junior engineers and support proposal development, cost estimates, and client presentations.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams across planning, design, and construction phases.


What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related field).

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in automation and control systems engineering.

  • Strong technical background with PLCs, HMIs, SCADA (Rockwell, Siemens, etc.).

  • Experience in the water/wastewater sector highly preferred.

  • Excellent communication, project leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and be open to travel (~20%).

  • Professional Engineering license or FE/EIT preferred (not required).
