A nationally recognized and highly respected construction management firm is seeking a Director of Estimating to lead preconstruction and estimating operations across the New York market.
This individual will play a critical leadership role within the business, overseeing complex commercial pursuits while helping drive strategy, process improvement, team development, and client engagement throughout the preconstruction lifecycle. The position offers the opportunity to influence some of the region’s most high-profile and technically sophisticated projects across multiple sectors.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of hands-on estimating expertise, executive-level leadership, operational oversight, and client-facing capabilities within large-scale commercial construction environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee estimating and preconstruction efforts across major commercial construction pursuits
- Manage and mentor estimating teams while helping establish best practices, process improvements, and long-term departmental growth strategies
- Drive conceptual estimating, budgeting, GMP development, value engineering, and cost planning efforts throughout all project phases
- Partner closely with operations, business development, ownership groups, and clients during pursuit and preconstruction stages
- Review subcontractor and vendor pricing while ensuring complete scope coverage and accurate risk analysis
- Provide strategic input on project logistics, phasing, constructibility, and procurement strategies
- Support business development initiatives and maintain strong relationships within the NYC construction market
- Present estimates, budgets, and preconstruction strategies to executive leadership and clients
- Assist in recruiting, training, and developing future preconstruction talent within the organization
Ideal Background
- 12+ years of estimating/preconstruction experience within commercial construction
- Prior leadership experience managing estimating or preconstruction teams
- Strong background delivering complex ground-up and interior commercial projects within the NYC market
- Experience across sectors such as commercial office, healthcare, life sciences, higher education, residential, mixed-use, hospitality, or institutional construction
- Strong understanding of conceptual estimating, GMP development, value engineering, and procurement strategy
- Ability to operate in both hands-on estimating and executive/client-facing leadership capacities
- Proven experience building relationships with owners, architects, consultants, and subcontractors
- Stable career progression with reputable commercial general contractors or construction managers
