Director of Engineering - Healthcare, Education, & Science + Technology 
Full-Time | St. Louis, MO (Hybrid)

Our client, a respected employee-owned architecture and engineering firm, is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Engineering to lead its multidisciplinary engineering practice, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology systems. This leadership role is responsible for driving technical excellence, operational performance, and team development across a portfolio of complex projects serving healthcare, education, research, and institutional clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for engineering operations, including staffing, project delivery, resource planning, and financial performance.
  • Lead and mentor engineering managers and discipline leaders, fostering accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Ensure consistent execution of project delivery standards, emphasizing quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Manage discipline capacity and workforce planning to align resources with project demand and business objectives.
  • Partner with executive leadership to identify hiring needs and support long-term talent acquisition and succession planning.
  • Develop and mentor engineering professionals, creating opportunities for career growth and leadership development.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with architecture, planning, and interior design teams to deliver integrated project solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • MUST have healthcare project experience. 
  • 15+ years of experience within the architecture, engineering, or consulting industry.
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering teams and managing multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of operational metrics, including utilization, profitability, project performance, and resource management.
  • Proven ability to build, develop, and retain high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-management skills.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
