Medical Planner

Location: Southeast U.S. (Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte, Durham, Charleston, or other Southeast office locations)

 

A nationally recognized architecture and design practice is continuing to invest in the growth of its award-winning Healthcare practice and is seeking a Medical Planner to join its collaborative Southeast team.

This is an opportunity to work alongside some of the most respected healthcare planners, architects, and designers in the industry while contributing to projects that are transforming the way healthcare is delivered. The team partners with leading academic medical centers, health systems, and research institutions on complex, high-impact projects ranging from major hospital campuses and specialty care facilities to ambulatory, cancer, behavioral health, and research environments.

With healthcare teams collaborating across multiple offices nationwide, you'll gain exposure to a depth and variety of projects that few firms can offer while maintaining the support and mentorship of a close-knit regional team.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and support medical planning efforts from programming through design and documentation.
  • Partner directly with healthcare clients, clinicians, user groups, and executive stakeholders to understand operational goals and translate them into thoughtful planning solutions.
  • Develop functional programs, space planning concepts, adjacencies, departmental layouts, and patient flow strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, engineers, and consultants throughout the design process.
  • Participate in user meetings, planning workshops, and design presentations.
  • Contribute to healthcare planning research, innovation, and best practices across the national healthcare practice.
  • Mentor junior team members and collaborate across multiple offices on complex healthcare projects.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in healthcare architecture and medical planning.
  • Strong understanding of hospital planning, clinical workflows, operational planning, and healthcare design principles.
  • Ability to facilitate user group meetings and engage confidently with healthcare clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience developing programs, blocking and stacking studies, departmental layouts, and planning concepts.
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Revit and healthcare planning documentation preferred.
  • Architectural licensure is welcomed but not required depending on experience.
