Thermal R&D Engineer

We are seeking a Thermal R&D Engineer to support the development of advanced two-phase and refrigeration-based cooling technologies for high-power electronic systems.

This is a hands-on engineering role covering system design, component selection, prototype development, testing and validation. The successful candidate will work on new thermal architectures and support the development of cooling solutions capable of operating in increasingly demanding, high heat-density environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop two-phase cooling and refrigeration-based systems
• Define system architecture, component specifications and performance requirements
• Support evaporator, condenser and compressor selection and design
• Build and test prototype cooling loops and thermal test systems
• Plan and execute experiments to evaluate thermal performance, pressure drop, stability and reliability
• Develop analytical and simulation models for heat transfer and fluid flow
• Evaluate refrigerants based on performance, safety, environmental impact and material compatibility
• Troubleshoot thermal and fluid system performance issues
• Work closely with mechanical, electrical and manufacturing engineering teams
• Support product integration and design optimization
• Improve system performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost
• Contribute to the development of future thermal technologies and product concepts

Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Master’s degree preferred
• 5+ years of experience developing two-phase, refrigeration or advanced thermal systems
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics
• Experience with compressor selection and refrigeration system design
• Knowledge of evaporator and condenser design
• Hands-on experience building and testing fluid loops, refrigeration systems or thermal prototypes
• Experience with experimental testing and performance analysis
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or equivalent
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Experience with pumped refrigerant systems, vapor-compression cooling, thermosiphons, CFD or thermal simulation tools would be beneficial.

Previous experience within semiconductor, electronics cooling, high-power systems or advanced product development would also be advantageous.

Working Conditions

This is primarily an on-site engineering position due to the hands-on laboratory and prototype development requirements.

Travel of up to approximately 10% may be required.

Benefits

• Performance-based bonus program
• 401(k) with company match
• Medical, dental and vision coverage
• Life and disability insurance
• Flexible spending account options
• Employee assistance program
• Paid time off
• 13 paid company holidays
