Project Manager - Corporate Interiors

Location: Chicago, IL | Full-Time | Architecture & Design Sector

A leading architecture and design firm is seeking a Project Manager with strong expertise in Corporate Interiors to join its Chicago studio. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with excellent organizational, design, and leadership skills who can manage interior projects from concept through completion, while maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring design and technical excellence.

This role offers the opportunity to lead impactful corporate interior projects while working within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team that values innovation, sustainability, and design quality.

Responsibilities:

Design Leadership

  • Understand and interpret design philosophies, industry trends, and space planning strategies.
  • Support the implementation of the overall design concept and ensure design intent is upheld throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Balance aesthetic and functional objectives while considering technical implications of design decisions.
  • Advocate for the firm's commitment to design excellence, sustainability, and innovation.

Technical Oversight

  • Guide all phases of the interior design and production process, ensuring integration of design and technical documentation.
  • Monitor progress to ensure drawings and deliverables meet firm standards and client expectations.

Project Management

  • Define and manage project scope, schedules, and work plans.
  • Lead contract negotiation and preparation for clients and consultants.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between client and project team, resolving issues and managing expectations.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation and communication protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality, documentation, and record-keeping standards.
  • Foster a collaborative team culture and contribute to staff development and mentorship.
  • Monitor performance metrics, quality benchmarks, and staffing coordination.
  • Organize and lead regular client and internal team meetings.
  • Manage all phases of project set-up, invoicing, billing coordination, and closeout procedures.
  • Support firmwide collaboration, cross-discipline coordination, and marketing initiatives.
  • Strengthen client relationships to encourage repeat business and future opportunities.
  • Monitor and address risks, technical issues, and client concerns to minimize liability.
  • Engage in post-project follow-up to ensure client satisfaction and identify future project leads.

Qualifications:

  • Professional degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in commercial interiors, with full project lifecycle involvement
  • Strong understanding of programming, space planning, construction documents, FF&E, finishes, and materials
  • Skilled in contract administration, project budgeting, and scheduling
  • Familiarity with project financial management and consultant coordination
  • LEED AP required (or within 6 months of hire)
  • NCIDQ or NCARB certification required
  • Proficiency in project management software and basic CAD tools
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead project teams effectively
  • Strong communication and client presentation skills
  • Collaborative, proactive, and professional work ethic
