Principal Transmission Engineer
Location: Various (Philadelphia, Denver, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Orlando)
About the Role
The Principal Transmission Engineer will serve as a technical authority and project leader within our client's Power Delivery group, overseeing the engineering and design of high-voltage transmission line projects ranging from 69 kV to 500 kV.
This role combines deep technical expertise, client engagement, and mentorship responsibilities. You’ll lead complex projects, develop design standards, and provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams driving innovation, efficiency, and quality across our transmission portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the subject-matter expert for transmission line design, structure analysis, and optimization. Develop and maintain design standards, tools, and quality procedures.
- Project Execution: Lead and stamp engineering packages for overhead transmission lines, ensuring compliance with NESC, ASCE, and client standards. Provide design oversight throughout all project phases—from feasibility and route selection through construction support.
- Mentorship & Development: Train and mentor engineers and designers; provide technical reviews and coaching to build internal capability and maintain consistent quality.
- Client Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to key utility and EPC clients; contribute to proposal development, technical presentations, and project scoping.
- Innovation & Optimization: Evaluate new technologies, materials, and design approaches to improve performance, cost, and constructability.
- Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Work closely with substation, civil, and construction teams to deliver integrated, constructible solutions on schedule and within budget.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- 10–20 years of experience in high-voltage transmission line design and analysis.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required (multi-state registration a plus).
- Advanced proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of NESC, ASCE 10, and related industry codes.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects and coordinate across offices or teams.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated client-facing experience.
