Principal in Charge - Healthcare Architecture

A mission-driven, employee-owned architecture firm is seeking a Principal in Charge to lead high-impact healthcare design initiatives across California.

With a focus on purpose-driven architecture, they are nationally recognized for their work across healthcare, education, and civic markets. The healthcare practice is especially respected for its strategic partnerships with major health systems-delivering projects that combine clinical rigor with human-centered design.
This is a senior leadership role that blends design oversight, business development, and firm strategy. As Principal in Charge, you'll be responsible for building client trust, guiding project teams, and helping secure new opportunities that reflect the firm's mission and market expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary point of contact for key healthcare clients and lead project delivery from concept to completion
Drive business development efforts, including pursuit strategy, client engagement, and proposal/interview leadership
Oversee a portfolio of healthcare projects and teams, ensuring high-quality execution, financial health, and client satisfaction
Collaborate with other firm leaders on studio planning, staffing, and operational initiatives
Support mentorship and development of emerging leaders, technical staff, and project managers
Participate in strategic firmwide initiatives and contribute to design excellence and innovation
What We're Looking For:
15+ years of architectural experience with a strong emphasis in healthcare design and delivery
Proven leadership in both project oversight and business development
Deep understanding of healthcare operations, regulatory frameworks, and client needs
Comfortable managing $4M+ in annual revenue and driving pursuit efforts for $5M+ in new contracts
Licensed architect with excellent communication, team-building, and strategic planning skills
