Overview

My client seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to guide the development of advanced electrical systems for mission-critical data center projects. This position plays a key role in delivering high-performance, reliable, and scalable electrical infrastructure for hyperscale and enterprise clients. The role requires a balance of deep technical acumen, leadership in multi-disciplinary design coordination, and a commitment to quality and innovation in every stage of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design for large-scale data center projects from conceptual design through construction administration and commissioning support.

  • Develop one-line diagrams, load and fault current calculations, system studies, and equipment layouts for medium- and low-voltage distribution systems.

  • Design and specify critical power infrastructure including switchgear, UPS, generators, PDUs, STS/ATS, grounding, and lighting systems.

  • Coordinate electrical systems with mechanical, structural, and architectural disciplines to ensure fully integrated solutions.

  • Review and seal engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications prepared by project teams.

  • Manage project deliverables, schedules, and client expectations in collaboration with project managers and discipline leads.

  • Interface directly with clients, vendors, and contractors to clarify design intent, resolve technical issues, and support construction activities.

  • Conduct peer reviews, QA/QC checks, and ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and client standards.

  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers through technical guidance and project leadership.

  • Participate in design standards development and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the mission-critical group.

Qualifications

  • Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering (M.S. preferred).

  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain within 6 months.

  • Experience: 8–15 years of electrical engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on mission-critical or data center design.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Strong knowledge of MV/LV distribution, grounding, and redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N).

    • Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as SKM or ETAP.

    • Working knowledge of Revit and BIM coordination workflows.

    • Familiarity with client-specific data center design standards and global infrastructure templates.

  • Soft Skills: Effective communicator with demonstrated ability to lead teams, collaborate across disciplines, and maintain client relationships.

Preferred Experience

  • Lead role on hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center projects.

  • Exposure to multi-phase campus developments and modular power topologies.

  • Knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational resiliency in mission-critical environments.

What is on Offer

  • Opportunity to lead high-visibility, technically complex projects within a nationally recognized mission-critical practice.

  • Collaborative, engineering-driven culture that values innovation, mentorship, and professional growth.

  • Competitive compensation, PE support, and continuous learning opportunities.
