Senior Mechanical Engineer – Data Centers - San Francisco, California (Hybrid)
About the Role
Our client, a globally renowned engineering and design consultancy, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Data Centers to lead the delivery of complex, mission-critical facilities across the West Coast. This position is ideal for an experienced mechanical engineer specialising in data center and critical infrastructure design, who is eager to assume a senior technical leadership role while maintaining a hands-on approach.
The Opportunity

Lead mechanical engineering design for data center and critical facilities projects, from initial concept through to construction completion.

Serve as the senior mechanical technical lead and principal client liaison on design-related matters.

Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with electrical, structural, and architectural designs.

Develop and review mechanical system concepts, calculations, specifications, and construction documentation tailored to mission-critical environments.

Contribute to project planning, including scheduling, resource allocation, and fee development from a mechanical engineering perspective.

Ensure all designs meet stringent performance, reliability, redundancy, resilience, and sustainability standards typical of data center facilities.

Provide technical oversight during construction phases, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and supporting commissioning activities.

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of technical standards and best practises within the team.

Support business development initiatives, including proposals, client presentations, and fostering long-term client relationships.
The Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

A minimum of 10 years’ experience designing mechanical systems with expertise in data centers or other mission-critical facilities.

Expertise in cooling strategies, HVAC systems, redundancy, and energy-efficient design tailored to critical environments.

Proven ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams on complex building or infrastructure projects.

Professional Engineering (PE) licence or willingness to obtain within one year is preferred.

Flexibility to collaborate across offices and undertake regional travel as required.
