Principal / Senior Principal Design Architect - Healthcare or Higher Education

Location: Philadelphia, PA | Full-Time | Architecture & Design Sector

A well-established, forward-thinking architectural firm is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Design Architect with a background in Healthcare or Higher Education design. This leadership role calls for an experienced professional (10-15+ years of experience) with the ability to lead sales and large projects, meet with key stakeholders, and have an eye for design.

The successful candidate will have a refined design sensibility supported by a portfolio of thoughtful, innovative institutional work. They should be comfortable conceptualizing projects at a high level while also overseeing teams and coordinating across disciplines to ensure strong technical execution. Just as crucial, they will be a confident and credible client-facing leader, able to build relationships with senior stakeholders at universities and healthcare systems, represent the firm in high-stakes meetings, and contribute to winning new work through presentations, strategic conversations, and trust-building.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead design efforts for high-profile healthcare and higher education projects from concept through completion
  • Serve as a key representative to major university systems and healthcare institutions, driving client engagement and project vision
  • Act as a strategic partner in winning work - developing, brokering, and sustaining long-term relationships with institutions like Yale, Brown, Enova, and others
  • Collaborate with internal leadership to mentor design teams and contribute to firm-wide strategy
  • Travel as needed to client sites (primarily within the Mid-Atlantic region)

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 10-15+ years of experience in architecture with significant experience on healthcare or academic projects.
  • Licensure: Registered Architect required.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of Healthcare or Higher Education design standards.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead sales and large-scale projects.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and client/stakeholder management skills.
  • Software Proficiency: CAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Word & Excel.
